Q+A: I have a few rosaries that are broken. They have been blessed. What is the proper way to dispose of them?

A: All blessed items should be disposed of in a dignified and reverent manner. There are two ways to dispose of blessed objects: by burning; or by burying them in the ground.

Blessed objects made of wood may be burned, while metal, ceramic, and other non-combustible materials should be buried in the ground. Blessed objects should never be thrown in the garbage.

Holy water should be put back into the earth, either by watering a plant in the house or by pouring it into the ground outside. It should not be poured down the drain.

The most important thing is that these objects be treated with respect and disposed of in an appropriate manner once they are broken or no longer of use.
