Brothers and sisters in Christ,
I am writing this update from Clear Creek Abbey outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma! Balancing family, work, and my ministry takes a lot of spiritual energy. This is my second time coming to Clear Creek. It is a week of prayer and helps to “recharge” my batteries. Clear Creek is a contemplative Benedictine Monastery. They do not work in schools or any other public ministry. They are contemplative. They work to sustain the abbey, with a focus on prayer and meditation. Imagine a group of 50 men who’s entire life is devoted to praying for us!
It was an exceptionally busy month for our household. Anna is adjusting to being a full time secretary at Holy Cross. She enjoys the stability of her position, but misses having half of the day to work with special needs children. Aspen is enjoying Grade 2 with Mme. Jennifer. Both Anna and Aspen are in their second year of piano lessons, and this weekend Aspen starts swimming lessons (she swapped out dance and is taking swimming instead).
We completely renovated the outside of the farm house. It looks completely new! We also have the barn moved to it’s new location. Still lots of work to be done, but we are getting closer to being ready for winter.
This past month we have been in full swing with the diaconate program. We had our first diaconate formation weekend. It was facilitated by Deacon Pat from Lac La Biche. It was a great weekend about “communication”. Anna was away on Saturday, so Father Andrew was Anna’s fill in for the day! It was quite amusing at times with Father Andrew and I doing “communication” exercises! We are just wrapping up our first Year 2 course, Introduction to the Old Testament. As I have mentioned, our Year 2 theology is almost entirely about the Scriptures. It is amazing how much we are learning about the history of our faith!
At the parish, we have kicked off the Social Justice committee and are well into preparations for the Liturgical committee and starting training for adult and altar servers.
So, what is coming up in the next month? We have another formation weekend at the beginning of November. We will be starting our second course at Newman. Additionally, this year we are doing our psychological assessments! This is the same assessment that our priests have done while they are in the seminary!
God bless you and continue to pray for me,
