Janet Sakowich

Joe and I have been married since September 1980 and we have two wonderful daughters, Rebecca and Brianne. After Rebecca was born, I realized something was missing in my life, something really important. After moving to Goodsoil in 1996 and being asked to join the RCIA group, I was welcomed into the Catholic Faith in St. Boniface Church in Goodsoil, Saskatchewan. We were in a transitional time in our lives, which included a move from Edmonton to Goodsoil for a few months and then moving to Grand Centre (which is now Cold Lake South). Upon arrival, I immediately became involved in the Assumption Church. I was asked to be a Reader as well helping with Angel’s Liturgy where our daughters attended. When it was time for the girls to receive the sacraments I volunteered to help.

Fr. Hamilcar asked me if I would be interested in working at the parish office twice a week for a couple of hours to answer the phone and to make the bulletin as the receptionist. At the time I would have never guessed that I would still be here after 14 1/2 years. Two hours, twice a week turned into four days a week as well as a change in job title, to Office Administrative Assistant, and working alongside Fr. Hamilcar and now working with our current Pastor, Fr. Nong.

I have had many roles in the church from administrative tasks to being the Sacristan, a Reader, a Communion Minister, RCIA, decorating at Easter and Christmas, to teaching the Sacraments just to name a few in St. Dominic. I also feel a special calling to help with planning funerals, as I believe I have a gift to assist grieving families.

When I am not at the church I love to read and go for long walks in the summer and spending time with my family whether it is watching a movie or vacationing at the Happiest Place on Earth.
